A woman wanted to vote early on the Malmö List—but couldn’t find any ballots. Just 90 minutes earlier, the party had delivered ballots to the polling place. When Nils Littorin went there, the Örebro Party’s ballots were also missing from several voting booths. Now he’s raising the question of whether this was election fraud or incompetence.
Already on the first day of early voting, reports are emerging of problems with ballots for smaller parties.
On Wednesday evening, the party leader of Malmölistan Nils Littorin alarm on X after the party was contacted by a woman who tried to vote for them.
”Election fraud? Incompetence? We were contacted by a woman who wanted to vote for the Malmö List. But the ballots were missing, even though we had delivered them 90 minutes earlier. When we went there, ballots for both the Malmö List and the Örebro Party were missing from several voting booths.”
Ballots for two parties were missing
It is, above all, the timing that raises questions. According to Littorin, the Malmö List’s ballots had been delivered to the polling place just an hour and a half before the woman discovered they were missing.
The party then went to the location itself. There, they found that the problem existed in several voting booths and that the Örebro Party’s ballots were also missing. The incident was documented in a video just over three minutes long, which was published along with the post.
I suspect it might be more than just carelessness
Littorin does not state definitively what has happened, but his question is clear: Is this a matter of incompetence—or were the ballots removed intentionally?
If someone has intentionally removed a party’s ballots, this effectively makes it more difficult for voters to cast their ballots for the party of their choice. The incident is therefore particularly sensitive when ballots for two smaller parties are missing at the same time and shortly after delivery.
The reactions were also strong. Edward Nordén Writing:
”It’s like that with every election. But only for certain parties. So it needs to be highlighted and reported. It’s a damn shame. And no, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”
Malmö List: Use a blank ballot
It is not yet clear why the ballots disappeared or who might have taken them. However, the Malmö List does not want the lack of pre-printed ballots to prevent anyone from voting for the party.
Littorin is therefore issuing a direct appeal to voters:
”Write the Malmö List on a WHITE/BLANK ballot if they’re missing!”
The question of what happened to the delivered ballots remains. For Littorin, the circumstances are remarkable enough to openly raise suspicions of election fraud—even at the start of early voting.
