Although the Public Health Agency of Sweden says that the risk of widespread infection is low, the agency is now opening the door to quickly classify the respiratory virus as dangerous to society. At the same time, the virus' genome and possible mutations are being closely monitored after the outbreak on the cruise ship MV Hondius.
On Monday, further suspected cases were reported after an American and a French passenger evacuated from Hondius showed symptoms. In total, six cases have been confirmed and additional people are suspected to have been infected. Three people have died.
Acting State Epidemiologist of the Public Health Agency of Sweden Erik Sturegård says Swedish authorities are now following developments very closely, reports Göteborgs-Posten (GP).
– There is always a risk that viruses can mutate. We are constantly updating ourselves on the situation and looking at the virus' genome, he says.
At the same time, the authority emphasizes that the risk of widespread infection outside the passengers on Hondius is still considered low.
Opening the door to stricter classification
Despite this assessment, the Public Health Agency of Sweden is open to quickly changing the classification of the virus in Sweden.
- We can reclassify the disease at very short notice. If such a need arises, we will immediately request it from the government, says Sturegård.
The respiratory virus is already classified as a public health emergency. This means that authorities can use contact tracing, follow up infected persons and issue special precautions.
A classification as socially hazardous, on the other hand, could open up for much more far-reaching measures.
”Can go very fast”
At the same time, Sturegård describes the disease as very serious, with a mortality rate of up to 40%. However, he emphasizes that the virus normally requires close contact between people to spread further.
– It's not like measles, where the air in a room can be contagious for hours after a sick person has been in it, he says.
At the same time, the State Epidemiologist opens up the possibility that a vaccine could be developed quickly if the situation changes.
– One lesson from the pandemic is that it can happen very quickly if the need is very great, he says.
The statements come at a time when several pharmaceutical companies are already working on new vaccine initiatives around hantavirus and European countries are discussing quarantine rules following the Hondius outbreak.

Untested so-called ”vaccines” will then again be happily produced for this media theater performance. How important it is to shove that nano-technology into our arms as a step to eradicate humanity
Well, here we are again with the same agenda as in 2020. No doubt that FHM are dangerous to society.
Now it is being prepared for a new vaccine the pharmaceutical companies have not made enough money on this fraud and those who rule want to increase the oppression so now the state and capital are cooperating as usual when it comes to oppressing and sucking out the population.
Oh dear, how dangerous this hanta virus seems to be. Friends, the same virus is called SORKFEBER. Look it up on the net and the hysteria falls pretty fast. FHM knows nothing about the virus more than what their supervisor owns for them to trumpet out.
