A former professional soccer player is in an induced coma after being brutally assaulted in Turnhout, Belgium. Karel Snoeckx, 52, was severely attacked while out driving with his wife and pregnant daughter.

Here's how it happened

According to witness accounts, the incident unfolded as follows:

A few people crossed the street in a strange and dangerous way. Snoeckx honked his horn to warn them. This quickly led to a confrontation, during which one of the men accused Snoeckx of racism. The conflict escalated, and Snoeckx was punched in the face, put in a chokehold, and repeatedly stomped on the head.

The attack has been described as extremely brutal. Snoeckx was resuscitated at the scene by paramedics over a period of 20 minutes before being transported to AZ Turnhout Hospital. He is now in an induced coma with suspected brain damage. His ribs and sternum are also broken.

”He is kindness personified”

According to his family, Snoeckx had a history of heart problems, which makes the attack even more serious. His wife and pregnant daughter were in the car and witnessed the entire assault.

”He is kindness personified; he wouldn't hurt a fly”, his wife said Lindsy Leppens told the Belgian media.

Arrested for attempted murder

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. A woman was also involved in the incident but has been released. According to several reports, the arrested man is a migrant.

The attack has sparked strong reactions in Belgium. Many view it as a racist act, in which yet another white man was attacked and nearly killed after being accused of racism.

Similar cases across Europe

The attack on Karel Snoeckx is far from an isolated incident. Recently, several similar violent crimes against Europeans have attracted widespread attention, with perpetrators of foreign origin responsible for brutal assaults.

The Swedish police officer and soccer fan were killed in Copenhagen Christian Zedig after intervening in a fight during a World Cup match viewing. According to witnesses, one of the attackers jumped on his head, and several people have stated that the assailant has an immigrant background.

In the United Kingdom, an 18-year-old died Henry Nowak after being stabbed. Even though he repeatedly told the police that he had been stabbed and couldn’t breathe, the officers chose to dismiss him. One of the officers replied, ”I don't think you have any, buddy”before Nowak was handcuffed instead of receiving emergency care. He died from blood loss.".

These cases, like the attack on Karel Snoeckx, share several common features: extremely brutal violence, often directed at people who have either intervened or come into conflict with perpetrators of foreign origin. In all cases, the violence has taken place in front of family members or in public settings, and the responses from authorities have in many cases been weak or delayed.

Together, they paint a picture of a growing problem in Europe, where violence by people with immigrant backgrounds against the native population appears to be on the rise—while many politicians and media outlets still refuse to speak plainly about the causes.
