The arrival of new technology in Swedish schools was initially welcomed with open arms and promises of revolutionary developments and results. But that image has begun to crumble and now more schools are taking the decision to scale back the number of screens.
There will be fewer computers and tablets in Gothenburg classrooms. This is reported by Gothenburg Post (The reason is that the screens are said to have created a ”problem of order” in classrooms.
- Screens have become a disruption to learning. Schools do not need to add screen time for young children, says Viktoria Tryggvadottir Rolka (S), chair of the primary school board.
Decision on phasing out coming soon
The Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Green Party will soon vote on a proposal to limit screens in pre-school and primary schools.
Tablets will disappear completely in pre-school and primary schools. Computers will remain in primary schools but with limited access.

Wonderful!
