Starting today, the energy tax on gasoline and diesel will be temporarily reduced. This is the second fuel tax cut to take effect in a short period of time.
First, the energy tax was lowered to the EU minimum level, resulting in a price reduction of approximately 1 krona per liter for gasoline and 40 öre for diesel (including VAT). This will be followed by an additional temporary reduction of 3 kronor per liter (including VAT), effective from July 1 through September 30.
Powerful performance at the pump
Together, the two reductions are expected to have a noticeable impact on prices at gas stations. According to industry estimates, the price of gasoline could drop to around 14.40 kronor per liter and diesel to about 16.30 kronor per liter during this period.
The reductions are part of the government's measures to keep fuel prices down during the summer and fall. The temporary additional reduction will expire on September 30 unless new decisions are made.

This is just an election gimmick; if it had been a permanent measure, it probably would have won some votes, but not the way it is now.
