Katja Nyberg charged with several crimes - now awaits trial

After months of suspicions, Katja Nyberg has been charged with several crimes. The former SD member and former police officer is suspected of drunk driving, drug use and aggravated driving - after the high-profile incident that shook Swedish politics last winter

Member of Parliament Katja Nyberg, former Sweden Democrat and now political savage for Ambition Sweden, prosecuted is now charged with several offenses following the high-profile incident in Värmdö in the intervening days. Previously, she was only a ”suspect”, but from now on she is ”charged” in the case.

The indictment concerns aggravated unauthorized driving, drunk driving, minor drug use and possession of drugs. This was announced by the Public Prosecution Service on Monday afternoon.

Prosecutor: ”Had drugs in his body”

According to the prosecutor Anders Jakobsson analysis from the National Forensic Center shows that Nyberg had drugs in her blood when she was driving in December.

- We have held several interviews with the woman and had the National Forensic Center, NFC, analyze tests that show, among other things, that she had drugs in her body when she drove a car in December. Now it is up to the court to try the case based on the evidence I present, he says according to the prosecutor's press release.

The prosecutor also states that drugs were found in a bag in the car.

Drove despite a suspended license

Nyberg is also charged with aggravated unlawful driving after she is alleged to have driven a car on two occasions in March - even though her license had already been revoked. Expressen previously published pictures showing how she drove a car after her license was revoked.

Has denied the crime

Katja Nyberg has previously said that the incident started with a wildlife accident and that she does not recognize herself in the media picture. Her lawyer Martin Orler previously told Aftonbladet:

- She denies any crime. She has no knowledge of any drugs.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, Nyberg denies most of the criminal charges, but has admitted to the illegal driving.

Nyberg left the Sweden Democrats earlier this year after her driver's license was suspended and she lost several important positions in parliament and the judicial oversight body. A trial is expected later this year.
