The crisis at SVT is deepening rapidly. It is now clear that 85 employees are leaving the company with severance pay, while profiles continue to drop out at a rapid pace. The cuts are now having a broad impact on the entire business and are causing growing concern internally at the public service giant.
Earlier this year, SVT announced that 141 positions will be made redundant and that the company will save SEK 355 million. Now it is clear that 85 employees are already leaving with severance pay, while relocation processes are underway in several parts of the company. The largest group affected is within Riksnyheterna, where many are now waiting to hear about their future, reports journalists.
- The next step is for management to map all vacancies within the company, says Johan Wiechel, chairman of SVT's union club
At the same time, several employees describe a growing uncertainty about what SVT will look like after the reorganization. Programs are being discontinued, roles are disappearing and operations are being scaled down in several places.
Profile after profile leaves
At the same time, the departure of well-known profiles continues. Karin Magnusson, Bengt Norborg and Kristofer Lundström have already announced that they are leaving SVT. Now the climate reporter is also joining Calle Elfström, the medicine reporter Josefin Lennen Merckx and the graphic designer Anders Mohlin, reports Aftonbladet.
Several of them link their decisions directly to the recurrent reorganizations and downsizing. Lennen Merckx describes how the constant changes have taken their toll on staff.
- Then you have to have the energy for another reorganization and I feel like I've been through quite a few rounds.
An SVT in rapid change
The austerity package has already led to the disappearance of cultural broadcasts, a reduction in live sports, and several programs being paused or rescheduled. At the same time, there is growing criticism of how taxpayers' money is being used and of the fact that SVT has previously demanded even more money, despite budgets in the billions.
Now both staff and profiles continue to leave while the business is being fundamentally rebuilt. For viewers, this means an SVT with fewer programs, fewer familiar faces and continued growing internal unrest.

What is this costing the Taxpayers. ?
How much in severance pay and for how long. ?
6 months ?
2 years?
Or more.
I'm thinking of refunding the TV license for 35 years of ”fake news” with very, very serious consequences.
Both for society and personal tradegies as a result of these grossly misleading propaganda.
I'm talking personal responsibility here for each of the people involved.
Terrible, these severance packages will cost us taxpayers BILLIONS,
SHUT DOWN SVT IMMEDIATELY & LONG LIVE FREE MEDIA.
