SJ’s new CEO, Jonas Abrahamsson, is not satisfied with the company’s performance during the recent widespread disruptions to train service. In his first major interview since taking office, he criticizes both internal shortcomings and external factors.
Jonas Abrahamsson reports that SJ itself is responsible for 20–25 percent of the delays. The causes include vehicle malfunctions, staff shortages, and canceled departures. The remaining disruptions are the responsibility of the Swedish Transport Administration, primarily due to infrastructure problems.
Want to improve what we can influence
The new CEO says that over the next six months, he will focus on the areas SJ actually has control over. This includes improving punctuality, providing clearer information to passengers during disruptions, and better managing passengers when trains are canceled or delayed.
– I'm not satisfied, says Jonas Abrahamsson.
Although many of the problems are beyond SJ’s direct control, he emphasizes that the company must improve its ability to deliver the service that customers have a right to expect. Abrahamsson previously served as CEO of Swedavia and has now been tasked with turning around the state-owned rail company.
