Sweden has halted a climate project in Ghana that would have contributed to the country’s climate goals. Although the project has been underway for over two years, it has failed to deliver any verifiable emissions reductions. The partnership is now being terminated entirely—and this is not the first time a Swedish climate project in Ghana has failed.
Sweden has halted a major climate project in Ghana that would have generated emissions reductions equivalent to 165,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2030. The project, run by the Swedish company Stella Futura, has failed to deliver any demonstrable results despite having been underway for over two years.
According to the Swedish Energy Agency, the company has been unable to present an approved project plan, and it is unclear whether any solar panels have been installed at all. The agency believes the timeline cannot be met and has therefore decided to halt the project. Furthermore, no funds are reported to have been disbursed from the agreed-upon amount of 90 million kronor.
Extremely low results in the pilot phase
During a pilot phase of the project, emissions were reduced by only 39 kilograms of carbon dioxide—an amount equivalent to a single car trip between Stockholm and Gothenburg. This can be compared to the target of 165,000 metric tons, which was what Sweden had hoped to count toward its climate reporting.
This is not the first time a Swedish climate project in Ghana has failed. A previous project that was supposed to result in 48,000 electric mopeds on Ghanaian roads has so far delivered only 152 vehicles.

It's unclear what actually happened
Sara Sundberg, head of the Climate Unit at the Swedish Energy Agency, says that it is common for projects of this kind to be in the early stages, but that in this case, no concrete progress has been observed.
– We believe that the timeline cannot be met, ", says Sara Sundberg.
She adds that it is unclear whether any solar panels have been installed at all:
– It’s entirely possible that nothing has happened during these years.
The project was part of Sweden’s efforts regarding international climate finance under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, under which countries can count toward their own emission reductions those achieved in other countries. Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) has previously highlighted this type of project as an important part of Sweden's climate efforts.
However, the partnership with Stella Futura is now being terminated, and Sweden will not be able to use the planned emissions reductions to meet its climate goals.

This ridiculous, senseless project should never have been launched. When there are Swedish fraudsters in our government, anything can happen. We are seeing that Swedish hospitals, schools, the police, and others.
If they have to cut back on their resources, we'll end up in Africa, wasting our tax dollars to NO AVAIL.
THESE CRIMINAL FRAUDSTERS BELONG IN PRISON.
Hasn't the climate hysteria gone too far already???????
I want ALL my money back, and those scammers should be locked up.
Ghana, the Land of the Future. DAMN IT!
SWEDEN FIRST!!!!
All 8 of you should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
This criminal waste of our resources should result in prison sentences!! The climate hoax involving ”carbon capture” (a scam) is just nonsense—shut down all corrupt aid programs and scrap the thoroughly corrupt Sida. Many incompetent bureaucrats will consequently lose their jobs—and rightly so!!
