Former Prime Minister Carl Bildt warns that the deadlock between the parties could become so entrenched that a snap election may ultimately be the only way forward.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The election has left Sweden in a difficult political situation in which no clear alternative for forming a government exists. <strong>Carl Bildt<\/strong> believes that <strong>Magdalena Andersson<\/strong> has the best chance of becoming prime minister\u2014but the road ahead is far from easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bildt Warns of New Election<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andersson needs support from parties that are far apart on several issues. Bildt does not believe that the Center Party and the Left Party can serve together in a government and therefore warns that the entire process could stall, reports <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.di.se\/nyheter\/bildt-varnar-for-nyval-en-reell-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Industry Today<\/a><\/strong> (DI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 <em>No one is particularly keen on a new election, but we can't rule out the possibility that we'll end up there. I think there's a real risk of that happening. The deadlock is so obvious<\/em>, says Bildt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201dThe voters pulled the rug out from under them\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Bildt, the Social Democrats had a different plan. The idea was to exclude the Left Party and bring in the Christian Democrats instead, but the election results put an end to that possibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 <em>The Social Democrats\u2019 strategic plan was, after all, to oust the Left Party and bring in the Christian Democrats. But mathematically, that no longer works. Voters pulled the rug out from under that option.<\/em>, says Bildt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I don't believe in the C and SD parties<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another possibility would be for the Center Party to switch sides and accept a government that receives passive support from the Sweden Democrats. But Bildt also considers that scenario highly unlikely and describes it as a <em>\u201dlong shot\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This puts the parties in a difficult position. Andersson needs to find an approach that both the Center Party and the Left Party can accept, while the right-wing parties need support across party lines if the seat distribution remains unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 <em>I'm not the one to figure out how she's going to balance things out with the Center Party and the Left Party<\/em>, says Bildt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If neither side manages to break the deadlock, the issue may ultimately be put back to the voters.
