Open Feud Between the Social Democrats and the Left Party – Accusing Andersson of ”Foul Play”

The battle within the left-wing coalition is intensifying just days before the election. The Left Party is now accusing Magdalena Andersson of ”dirty tricks” following the Social Democrats’ increasingly harsh criticism of the Left Party.

The conflict between the Social Democrats and the Left Party over control of the government has escalated following new revelations about posts by Left Party candidates that have been identified as anti-Semitic. Eight more candidates have deleted from the party's candidate lists.

Party Secretary of Party S Tobias Baudin has since taken a strong stand against forming a coalition government. The announcement poses a new obstacle for the V Party, which is demanding to be included in the government after the election.

– That party is, after all, very, very far from being part of a government—that’s just the way it is.

V goes on the offensive: ”Foul play”

Now, the vice chair of Party V is speaking out Ida Gabrielsson back. She points out that the Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson had previously praised the party's actions when 25 other candidates were dropped this spring, reports TV4.

– When it comes to the government formation issue, I think it’s a dirty trick. Magdalena Andersson clearly stated when we removed these 25 candidates this past spring that she thought we had handled it well and that we had acted appropriately, but all of a sudden, in the final stretch of the election, the tone has changed. I think that’s unfortunate.

The dream of forming a government is becoming more difficult

The dispute lays bare the central power struggle within the left. The Left Party wants to join the government, while the Social Democrats are keeping the party at arm’s length and the Center Party categorically refuses to support a government that includes the Left Party.

For voters who do not want to see the Left Party at the government table, the situation has thus become clearer: the more intense the conflict becomes, the harder it will be to unite the Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Green Party, and the Center Party behind the same government.
