V-Ali's Debt Crisis – A Suspected Pipe Dream and a Business Partner's Anger

Over 160,000 kronor in debt, withheld compensation, and grandiose billion-kronor plans in Somalia that no one has been able to confirm. The Left Party’s newly elected member of parliament, Mohamed Ali, is once again in hot water following new revelations. Now his business partner wants to end their partnership—and is questioning whether she has been misled.

The Left Party's Mohamed Abdukardir Ali was elected to the Riksdag from Dalarna. But behind this electoral success lies a long history of unpaid debts and broken promises to pay. In a new investigation, it is revealed that The Express new details about his finances and business dealings.

Debt Mountain – Despite a Payment Plan of Zero Kronor

As early as 2022, Ali had about 163,000 kronor in debt with the Swedish Enforcement Authority. He was granted debt restructuring with a payment plan of zero kronor per month. Despite this, new payment demands continued to arrive, including for unpaid vehicle expenses.

At the same time, documents from the Swedish Public Employment Service show that Ali’s benefits were suspended for a total of 405 days. Among other things, he had missed appointments and failed to submit activity reports. He is also said to have held several short-term jobs, which reportedly were marked by difficulties in complying with rules and conditions.

Plans Worth Billions in Somalia Are Being Questioned

Together with a former Moderate Party politician (who now leads the local party Ny Framtid in Borlänge) Agneta Nyvall Ali planned a large-scale project in Somalia. A document outlines initiatives totaling approximately 875 million kronor over two years, including digital identity systems and environmental projects.

But The Express has not been able to confirm the contacts with Somali policymakers. Sida, Vinnova, and Stockholm University also state that they have no knowledge of the contacts described in connection with the project.

The business partner feels cheated

Nyvall states that she contributed money toward Ali's trips to Somalia. Now she is questioning whether the alleged business meetings actually took place. She has been unable to reach Ali for a month and wants to dissolve their joint company.

– "Maybe I'm a damn useful idiot," was what I thought when you told me that. I had no idea about it., ", she tells Expressen.

Denied citizenship—but became a citizen just before the election anyway

In 2024, Ali was denied Swedish citizenship because the Swedish Migration Agency determined that he did not meet the requirement of leading a law-abiding life. In a subsequent court filing, he referred to his international development project. In February 2026, he was granted citizenship. The grounds for the decision are confidential, and it is unclear what role the project played in the decision.

Ali has not responded to Expressen's latest questions.

  1. Why aren't the decision-makers at the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration, the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority, and V. being held accountable… those who made the decisions must be brought to light.
Ali was probably just ”tagging along.” .

A foreigner who can’t even read Swedish can’t make it all the way to the Riksdag without there being something very shady behind the scenes that never seems to come to light.
