Trial Begins in Charlie Kirk Murder Case – Suspect Reportedly Smiled in the Courtroom

Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the murder of Charlie Kirk, has now gone on trial. On the first day of the trial, prosecutors presented their opening evidence, while Kirk’s widow faced the alleged perpetrator in the courtroom for the first time.

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, where he was answering questions from students as part of his ”The American Comeback Tour.” According to prosecutors, a single rifle shot was fired from the roof of a nearby building, striking Kirk in the neck and killing him. Tyler Robinson was arrested shortly thereafter and is suspected of what, in Swedish legal terminology, corresponds to ”aggravated murder.”.

The five-day preliminary hearing began on Monday in the Fourth District Court in Provo, Utah, according to reports Fox News. The court must determine whether the prosecutors have presented sufficient evidence to bring Robinson to trial for aggravated murder. The prosecution has announced that it will seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted. The first day was devoted to presenting the opening evidence and hearing the first witnesses.

The family met Robinson for the first time

Charlie Kirk's widow was sitting in the courtroom Erika Kirk along with his parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk. Also Donald Trump Jr., who was a close friend of Kirk's, was present during the trial. It was the first time the family had seen Robinson since the murder.

Ahead of the hearing, the family issued a joint statement:

”Charlie was a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father.”

”Every court hearing is a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably affected our lives and the lives of our children.”

The widow left the courtroom

The first witness was the former university police officer Chris Bagley, which described the moment when the shot was fired at Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University.

When Bagley began describing the fatal shooting, Erika Kirk chose to leave the courtroom. A person walking with her was seen crying, while Erika herself looked down during the testimony.

Bagley said he heard a gunshot and saw Kirk fall to the ground before people around him began fleeing in panic. He also described how the police later secured the suspected scene of the shooting.

Robinson is said to have smirked in the courtroom

According to reporters on the scene, Robinson was seen smiling on several occasions while speaking with his defense attorney before the evidence was presented, reports Daily Mail. He was wearing a gray suit and had handcuffs attached to a chain around his waist. As the prosecutors reviewed photographs from the crime scene, he sat silently and followed the proceedings.

The proceedings will continue this week. Prosecutors are expected to present additional witnesses, DNA evidence, autopsy results, and other forensic evidence before the judge decides whether the case should proceed to a full murder trial.

  1. I don’t believe for a split second that Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk to death; I’ve never believed it, and with each passing week I become more and more convinced that this was an inside job designed to reshape TPUSA into the entirely Jewish-controlled organization that Charlie Kirk had begun to prevent it from becoming, with considerable help from both Tucker and Candace, but above all through his own convictions. The “Satanic Widow” is—to put it mildly—very weird.
